2009 Celtic Festival Fine Art Prints: Celtic House
I have been making artwork for the festival since 1993 and this is 16th in the series.
Each piece is created to tell a story and for me has become a visual invitation to an annual celebration of music, dance, storytelling and craft art in the Celtic tradition.
Prints will include the title "Celtic House" with my signature and year, 2009 and will come in in a clear bag with foam core backing.
Artist Notes
This year we celebrate "the scattering" of the Celtic people throughout the world.
In creating this image, I started with a house and gave it the wings of geese to suggest a home taking flight-- but it could also be coming in for a landing. The roof is made of furrows in a field, a place to scatter seeds with hope that they take root and flourish.
The animals of the four elements, earth, air, fire and water are represented by the ox, geese, dragons and fish. Some were chosen from Huron County’s agricultural and natural heritage because it is here that many Celtic people established roots after scattering. The dragons are a reminder of the creative energy of the hearth as central to life. It is a place where we can be fed not only with food but with stories, craft art, music and dance.
Something new is created out of this scattering and is cause for celebration. This house is an expression of gratitude for the creative abundance that grows in the places we name or rename as home.
