2024 Celtic Festival Fine Art Print: Rising Phoenix
I have been making artwork for the festival since 1993 and this is 31st in the series. Each piece is created to tell a story and has become a visual invitation to an annual celebration of music, dance, storytelling and craft art in the Celtic tradition.
Prints will include the title "Rising Phoenix" with my signature and year, 2024 and will come in in a clear bag with foam core backing.
Artist Notes for Rising Phoenix
The phoenix has been on my artist to do list
since the Goderich tornado
as a hopeful symbol to remind us
that we can rise after a time of ashes.
This fire bird emerged from the Egyptians
to tell the story of the rising and setting sun.
Here the sun spirals at their heart
and is the energy that gives flight on air.
Some say that the phoenix only lives in fire and air.
This one contains all of the elements:
a tree at the core,
earthly branches igniting into fiery wings,
and swimming fish in a river of water.
(An internal fire extinguisher?)
In the Celtic world, birds are considered soul carriers.
The phoenix gives the energy of fire to create
from the ashes of our lives.
Offering our souls a fresh start
