The Great Surrender
Encaustic paint and mixed media
Created after a summer of tending to Monarch butterflies, I chose this title in their honour. Monarch butterflies live an act of surrender both in their metamorphosis and in their migration over North America from Mexico to Canada and back.
While painting, I go through an act of surrender to intuition as I create. It is best when I don't seek out the safety of meaning in the process.
In reflection, I see it as a map for a journey over land through portals and doorways and up into trees relying on the energy of light and colours in nature as sustenance.
36X24 inches with 1.5 inch sides that are varnished wood on 3 sides and painted with white encaustic paint on the bottom edge.
It is signed on the back and ready to hang in a special place in your home.
